A limited-edition single malt from Brora, released in 2019 to celebrate the distillery’s 200th anniversary, ahead of its reopening in 2020. Matured for 40 years in American oak hogsheads, this Highland single malt is rich and smoky, with aromas of treacle, ripe figs, raisins and peat smoke throughout the nose. The palate offers notes of rich fruit, dried figs, dates, white pepper and earthy peat smoke.

Brora 1978 40 Year Old 200th Anniversary is a stunning 40 year old Highland single malt was laid to rest at Brora in 1978 and bottled in celebration of the distillery’s 200th anniversary in 2019.​​

​​​​One of just 1819 (nice touch!) bottles that scored a sensational 93 points with the WhiskyFun critics, this natural strength beauty was filled at 49.2% ABV and comes with its ultra premium original presentation case.

The Brora distillery (originally known as Clynelish) was founded by the Duke of Sutherland in 1819. It was closed in 1967 after opening a larger Clynelish site next-door, but were then to reopen the original site under the Brora name the following year. The second closure occurred in 1983, the Brora vintage stocks up to the closure are highly revered and sought after. In 2017, it was announced Diageo would resurrect this lost treasure, with the distillery eventually filling its first casks in May 2021.

Distilled at Brora on the Sutherland coast in 1978, this limited edition expression has been bottled one year before the almost-lost distillery is due to reopen. Bottled in celebration of the distillery’s 200th anniversary, this single malt was laid down at a time when Brora was producing a peated malt using heavily peated northern Highland barley. Matured for four decades and limited to just 1,819 bottles (in celebration of the anniversary year), this expression is presented at a strength of 49.2% abv.

The nose is rich and sweet with fruity notes, ripe figs, and a fiery, smoky side. The palate is smooth and lightly waxy, with a powerful, rich, darkly sweet flavour becoming more savoury before the smoke emerges and lingers on in the finish. Whiskey Club
